My Senior Year At A Sports Camp - 777 Words
In August of 1981, before I began my senior year, the band began to practice music for field show in the new secondary center. The cheerleaders and the football team also used the new school during the summer of 1981. Instead of the band practicing in the auditorium, there was a band room. The band director had an office. There was regular storage for equipment. We no longer had to store percussion instruments and other items in the wings of the stage and the janitorsââ¬â¢ closets. That year the opening song of our field show was Seventeen Come Sunday from Ralph Vaughan Williamsââ¬â¢s English Folk Song Suite. We learned our field show at a sports camp in the Poconos. We did not return to Mansfield State College. The members of the Band Parents Association said that it was less difficult to chaperone the students at a sports camp than it was on a small college campus. In September, students from seventh grade through twelfth grade began to attend classes at the brand new school. There was a real Industrial Arts instruction area. Students were able to work on real projects instead of string art. There was a Home Economics room instead of a mobile home. There were laboratories and a planetarium. There were enough classrooms so that every teacher had his or her own classroom. The library was used only as a library and no longer had to be used as a classroom. The nursesââ¬â¢ office was no longer in the girlsââ¬â¢ locker room. There was a cafeteria.
